Sounds like a power supply problem to me. Would you kindly let us know what your system is? Is it possible the PSU is faulty and isn't supplying about voltage to the CPU for it to pass the system check when the system is started? Or would it be the motherboard possibly failing to check the CPU properly? I have a brand name and good quality power supply. My CPU temperatures are fine and nothing has changed inside the system itself. I don't understand how the system runs fine but if it's powered off, it fails the CPU check. So with all of that, does it seem like I have a problem with the CPU, the motherboard or the power supply?

Tonight, I decided to play a game and once it started, the PC powered off and the red CPU LED came on. I waited another hour and it powered back on and started working again with no problems. I had to shut my PC down again later on and when turning it back, once again, the red CPU LED lit up. Eventually after letting it sit for about an hour, the computer powered on and started working without any problems. According to my motherboards manual, this. I had attempted to clear the CMOS and powered the system on and off multiple times but the LED stayed on. I observe the motherboard, and I discover the my motherboards EZ Debug LED is lit up namely, the CPU LED light. The system powered on and the fans spin up but the CPU LED showed red.

The problem started after powering off my system and rebooting. I've had my system for over a year and have had no problems out of it. If the problem continues even at this point I would suggest trying a known working PSU as the next step.I'm having a problem where my ASUS motherboard is showing a red light on the CPU LED. Turn PSU on by shorting the On/Off Power Switch header on the motherboard with a screwdriver. Pull the CMOS battery for a few minutes, then replace it.

If the problem continues at the first stage, then the problem must be one of the items still active, the board, PSU, CPU. To help troubleshoot your system I advise you strip it down to the most basic hardware level and, assuming the problem does not continue, add a part one by one until you identify the offending item.
